Dear Bucky- How do I Wear an Ear Cuff?

December 19, 2012

Dear Bucky,

Thanks for your post on ear cuffs. I’ve wanted one for a long time, but I have no idea how to wear them. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dear Clueless about Cuffs,

My best advice to you is to go CLEAN and SIMPLE. When you wear an ear cuff, let that be the only jewelry you wear on your face. A simply necklace or something like that is fine, but for goodness sake, you don’t want to look like you wear headgear…so keep the metal to a minimum! Choose one ear cuff you like and wear it a couple different ways:

Weekend Wardrobe

Ear Cuff 1

Notice how simple and played down everything in this outfit is. You’re not wearing sweatpants (because that is sinful) and you are still every bit as comfortable. Also notice how modest it is. If you dress borderline skanky and then put a bunch of metal in your ear, you will look like a skank. Keep is sophisticated and conservative.

Work Attire

Obviously keep this one conservative. Depending on where you work, you may be able to get away with different types of dressing. Luckily, an ear cuff is easy to take out if your boss protests. I like this outfit because of the simplicity of the cuts and the added interest in things like the jacket color and the bow on the blouse. Once again,  I would have the ear cuff be my only jewelry. Just remember- keep it tactful! And maybe avoid wearing it to work if you’re a lawyer.

Did you notice the running trend of tops that have detailed interest around the neckline? Let the clothes be your jewelry and it will make your ear cuff stand out more. I would tuck this shirt in to the shorts. The high waist line of the shorts and the nude heels will make your legs look ridiculously long. The clutch in wine red adds some nice interest.

Hope that makes you a little less clueless!
