Dear Bucky- Post Holiday Blues

January 7, 2013

Dear Bucky,

How do I get over the post holiday blues?? I’m as iced over as the snow outside.

Dear Blue,

Ever heard of the quip ‘mind over matter’? The first thing you need to change is your attitude. Here are a couple great ways to get out of the post holiday rut:

1) Make Some Goals: Having something to look forward to is always a good thing. They don’t have to be extravagant; even something like ‘get coffee with the girls at 2pm on Tuesday’ will give you something to look forward to. Make sure you write them down on your calendar to visually remind yourself of the upcoming fun throughout the week. I recommend making weekly and monthly goals. Sometimes yearly ‘resolutions’ seem to distant and unattainable.

2) Go Shopping…in your own closet. Ever heard of spring cleaning? Why not start early? Turn up some music (not going to lie…I use Ke$ha) and start going through your closet. Try things on to make sure they still fit. A good rule of thumb is: If you didn’t wear it all last season, you probably won’t again…donate it…or use a site like and sell it off! This is your chance to try out new outfits- rather than 20 minutes before you have to be somewhere. Need some inspiration? Check out and

3) Pick Up A New Hobby. Try knitting, drawing, reading poetry, snowshoeing, or cooking. Never stop learning!

4) Volunteer. Helping others is proven to make you feel happier. Find a cause and get started!

5) Lastly, find a way to personally enrich yourself. Examples include: reading more books by your favorite author, writing a short story, working out consistently, try new healthy food recipes. The better you treat yourself, the better you will feel.

Bon Chance!
